Project Virus is a preventive public health project based on the education of the general public, especially younger people, about virus HIV, aids and other sexually transmitted disease. We carry out peer-to-peer learning workshops in elementary and high school all year long, and rise awarness among the general public on 1st of December – World Aids Day, and on various summer youth festivals.

Sapere Aude, meaning ‘dare to know’ in latin, is a project that offers medical students a chance to get a deeper insight into the realtionship between a doctor and a patient. It focuses on dealing with patients with chronic disease and in terminal states as well as their families, and how to best deal with having to work with such patients. Lectures are organized on the topics of psychiatry and doctor’s psyche, eutanasia, gireving, oncology, work with patients’ relatives, the elderly….

Projekt Šport is a project of SlomSIC that focuses on the organisation of sports events and activities for the students of Medical faculty Ljubljana. The project also deals with the organisation of teams that represent the faculty in many different inter-faculty or university competitions and provides the teams with the necessary clothing and equipment. It enables the students to have a diverse range of options when it comes to physical activities while also promoting events like the games of their fellow students, activities organized by the faculty or university.

Misli na srce (Eng. Think of Your Heart) is a public health student project that has been a part of Slovenian Medical Student Association for many years. It is a non-profitable project powered by volunteering students from different grades of Medical Faculty of Ljubljana. Our primary goal is to raise awareness of cardiovascular diseases in our surroundings and to encourage people to change their life habits in order to improve their health.
Each year we organise a big public event in the very heart of Ljubljana – “Krog zdravja” (Eng. “Circle of Health”). We count visitors to this event in thousands and we offer them free measurements of blood glucose, cholesterol and pressure and try to advise them how they should take care of their health.
Another important activity of our project are workshops for high school students in Ljubljana and even broader. These are an interactive way to get students to understand the risks they are exposed to and which can lead to heart problems later in life. Being not much older than them, students tend to treat us as equals rather than professors; this is why we believe our message settles more readily in their minds.
Few times a year we organise individual lectures for medical students about different cardiovascular themes which are always well attended. Moreover, once a year a big four-day congress takes place at the Medical faculty where, in association with acknowledged professors and clinicians of our Clinical Centre, various topics about heart anatomy, surgery and cardiovascular diseases are presented.
But our project is much more than just a public health project! It binds students of different ages and from different towns, encourages us to cooperate and form firm friendships which make our work very pleasurable and even fulfil us personally.

Cor is a mixed choir of students of Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, which brings us together in our endeavour to promote cultural activities and take care of the enrichment of various events at the Faculty of Medicine, such as the presentation of the Prešeren Awards, master’s degrees and master’s awards, concerts held by medical students and medical staff etc. In addition, each year we perform our traditional Christmas concert, which is intended not only for our own pleasure but also for that of the patients of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, who we visit, wearing Christmas hats, on our mini tour of the hospital site. Each year we also hold our own annual concert. We can boast a very diverse repertoire and occasionally we also add choreography.
Weekly we have a two to two-and-a-half-hour practice. When we practice intensely for a particular concert, we often have additional practice, such as intense vocal exercises that last all weekend. We practice under the guidance of Alenka Podpečan, who is a student of the Academy of Music (Music Pedagogy and Choral Conducting). The choir members who regularly attend practice learn a lot about the proper techniques of singing and performing of music. Besides singing, which helps us relax and unwind, we also find it important that we enjoy socialising with one another.
